What is the best way to mow lawn?

The quality of your mowing service can have a HUGE impact on the color, strength, and health of your grass. At Cornelius Lawn and Garden we make sure to follow these principles to ensure your lawn is looking good all year round:
Blade Sharpening
Sharpening lawn mower blades every two weeks on commercial mowers ensures that the grass is cutting cleanly. Dull mower blades can rip and tear the grass, causing brown grass blades and increasing stress on the grass especially during summer months.
Cut Height
The ideal height for cool season grass during the spring and summer is 3.5". Weekly cutting at this height from mid-April to the beginning of October can help to suppress weeds and keep a lush green color. Cutting below this height during a drought can burn the grass causing the lawn to turn yellow, while keeping the grass taller can invite diseases due to lack of airflow.
Mulching
Pulverizing grass clippings into a fine residue can provides additional nitrogen and organic material to your lawn. Mulching can also provide moisture retention to keep your lawn happy during periods of drought. Mulching during the fall in heavily wooded areas in WEst Haven, Milford, and Orange can grind leaves into the ground, saving you time and hassle of a fall cleanup! Call Cornelius Lawn and Garden today and let us take care of the work.
